{"id":671,"date":"2013-11-03T22:46:53","date_gmt":"2013-11-03T20:46:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ufukonen.com\/en\/?p=671"},"modified":"2014-06-02T08:41:06","modified_gmt":"2014-06-02T05:41:06","slug":"atmm-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ufukonen.com\/en\/atmm-2013.html","title":{"rendered":"ATMM 2013, Bilkent, Ankara"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"ATMM_2013_Poster_131012_m\" src=\"http:\/\/atmm-conference.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/ATMM_2013_Poster_131012_m.jpg\" width=\"594\" height=\"829\" \/><br \/>\n<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Audio Technologies for Music and Media\u00a0<\/i>is an international interdisciplinary conference that focuses on the various aspects of audio, audiovisual and music technologies for music and media, and, also, on the relationship between sound, music and image in both &#8216;traditional&#8217; and &#8216;new&#8217;\u00a0media.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ATMM welcomes not only academics, professionals and students, but also all those who have interest in music, sound and media technologies.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After the success of\u00a0<a title=\"ATMM 2012\" href=\"http:\/\/atmm-conference.org\/?page_id=61\">ATMM 2012<\/a>, the first international conference in Turkey in the fields of audio, music and media, ATMM returned to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bilkent.edu.tr\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Bilkent University<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a0<strong>31 October \u2013 1 November 2013<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Hosted by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/comd.bilkent.edu.tr\/\" target=\"_blank\">Department of Communication and Design<\/a>,\u00a0ATMM 2013 featured a tightly-packed program with 27 presentations, two workshops, a panel, a performance and an exhibition of student works. His credits include\u00a0<em>Star Wars: The Old Republic<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Kinect Disneyland Adventures<\/em>,\u00a0<em>The Walking Dead Motion Comic<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Watchmen Motion Comic<\/em>\u00a0(2008 G.A.N.G. award winner), and\u00a0<em>Dirty Harry<\/em>\u00a0among many others. Moore is not only a professional, but also an educator as well. He has developed the first accredited degree program for Game Audio and Interactive Media at Pinnacle College, and also developed and taught Composing for Video Games courses at the USC Thornton School of Music and UCLA Extension.<\/p>\n<dl id=\"attachment_138\">\n<dt><\/dt>\n<\/dl>\n<p>ATMM 2013, in collaboration with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iasig.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">IASIG<\/a>,\u00a0brought \u201cGame Audio Theory and Practice\u201d panel to Bilkent University. Presented by Stephen Harwood Jr and Lennie Moore, this session unveiled the essential concepts and practical approaches used in the creation of sound and music for video games, and, also, other interactive virtual environments.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/atmm-conference.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Stephen_Harwood-240x300.jpg\" width=\"115\" height=\"144\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Stephen Harwood Jr is a composer, orchestrator and sound designer for video games and film. His credits include\u00a0<em>Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Brothers inArms: D-Day<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Propaganda Lander<\/em>\u00a0among many others. Harwood Jr has previously taught at New York University\u00a0and worked as an independent orchestrator for Greensboro Symphony Orchestra. He is currently an Adjunct Professor of Game Audio at Mercy College and an Instructor of Game Audio at SAE Institute, New York.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/atmm-conference.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Pieter_Snapper.jpg\" width=\"115\" height=\"144\" \/>ATMM 2013 hosted a presentation by Pieter Snapper, the founder of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.miam.itu.edu.tr\/\" target=\"_blank\">MIAM<\/a>\u00a0studios and co-founder of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.babajim.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Babajim Istanbul Studios &amp; Mastering<\/a>,\u00a0on contemporary opera production techniques. Snapper is a mastering engineer, producer, and composer of contemporary classical and electronic music. His works have been played in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. He has received awards from BMI, ASCAP, UC Berkeley, the Union League Foundation, and commissions from the Fromm Foundation at Harvard University, Yamaha Corporation of America, the ensemble Eighth Blackbird (three time Grammy-winners), and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft\" alt=\"Liz_Teutsch\" src=\"http:\/\/atmm-conference.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Liz_Teutsch.jpg\" width=\"115\" height=\"144\" \/>ATMM 2013 featured a panel, titled &#8220;Preparing a Future in Audio technology&#8221;, on audio education, organized and moderated by Liz Teutsch (<a href=\"http:\/\/valencia.berklee.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Berklee College of Music, Valencia Campus<\/a>). Teutsch, the former Director of Center for Digital Imaging Arts at Boston University, is an Associate Professor and the Assistant Director of Academic Technology at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/valencia.berklee.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Berklee Valencia<\/a>.\u00a0She teaches courses in music production and technology at the Valencia campus, which launched its new\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/valencia.berklee.edu\/academic-programs\/master-degrees\/master-in-music-technology-innovation\/9\/\" target=\"_blank\">Master&#8217;s Degree in Music Technology Innovation<\/a>\u00a0this fall.\u00a0Panelists included Arda Eden (\u0130n\u00f6n\u00fc University) and H\u00fcseyin Hacihabibo\u011flu (METU Informatics Institute), and IASIG members Stephen Harwood Jr, Lennie Moore and Ufuk \u00d6nen (Bilkent University).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft\" alt=\"Mehmet Ugur Memi\u015f\" src=\"http:\/\/atmm-conference.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Mehmet_Ugur_Memis.jpg\" width=\"115\" height=\"144\" \/>ATMM 2013 also featured a mixing clinique by renowned audio engineer Mehmet U\u011fur Memi\u015f. Memi\u015f\u2019s credits include \u0130skender Payda\u015f, Peter Murphy, Feridun D\u00fcza\u011fa\u00e7, Volkan Basaran and Og\u00fcn Sanl\u0131soy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft\" alt=\"Cem_Tuncer\" src=\"http:\/\/atmm-conference.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Cem_Tuncer.jpg\" width=\"115\" height=\"144\" \/>The prominent bass guitar player Cem Tuncer, who has worked and played with names such as Artun Ert\u00fcrk, Pamela, Volkan \u00d6ktem and Dave Weckl, delivered a seminar at ATMM 2013 about the factors that affect the quality of bass guitar tones.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Audiologist Handan Turan Dizdar delivered a talk about hearing disorders caused by excessive noise.<\/p>\n<p>ATMM 2013 was pleased to host \u201cRemote: Relocating Sound\u201d, platform of discussion on various subjects related with the current focusing points of contemporary sound-art milieu. The expressive potentials of sound-art performances, sonification of scientific data, interpretation of remote information were some of the topics of presentations, workshops, and performances. \u201cRemote: Relocating Sound\u201d, curated by Basak Senova, is a joint project of ArtUP!, NOMAD and Bilkent University.
